Dance Bits: Devo, Sasha and The Moon

Devo 2.0 kidding around with new release
(billboard.com) A band who named themselves for their self-derived term "de-evolution" has done so in attempting to reinvent themselves. The influential new wave band Devo is taking their music to another generation through a promotional stunt. For the release of their self-titled CD/DVD via Disney, Devo 2.0 will be portrayed by 5 pre-teen musicians who are currently in rehearsal for live performances that are scheduled to begin this Spring.

"We always had this idea kind of like 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' where it would be a kids band playing Devo songs for the exact demographic Disney wants, which is like 4-8 year olds," said Jerry Casale one of the band's founding members. He had an interesting description of those who won out in the four month casting which resulted in the current kid-Devo makeup. "They're all really smart. They're by no means goodie-goodie, but they don't have any of the behavioral cliches of the mainstream. They're really kind of like little scientists and they love Devo music."  The album will feature 10 updated versions of Devo classics and two new songs, Cyclops and The Winner.

Sasha returns to his Fundaction
(dancefrontdoor.co.uk) Sasha used the U.S. as a testing ground for his state-of-the-art sound system in 2005. Apparently the testing went well, because he is returning for an encore in 2006.

For all the dates, just like last year, Sasha will be using the Maven, his only one-of-its-kind, custom-made controller. And the technology along with Sasha's big name carried him on a world wide seven-month tour in 2005, performing to sell out crowds in huge cities including Beijing, London, Sydney, and Tokyo. But it's the U.S. dates that have inspired him to return to the foundation of his success in 2005. "The Fundacion residency shows last year in New York
and LA were so fantastic it made my decision to return to Crobar and Avalon an easy one," he said. "I've added Washington, D.C. and Denver as they were two of my favorites from my U.S. tour last year. I'm really excited to return to these venues with some of my favorite DJs in 2006."

Sasha's 2006 Fundacion Tour Dates are listed below:

February 4, Glow, Washington, D.C.
February 17, Vinyl, Denver
February 18, Avalon, Los Angeles
March 31, Crobar, New York City
April 1, Glow, Washington, D.C.
April 21, Vinyl, Denver
April 22, Avalon, Los Angeles
June 9, Crobar, New York City
June 10, Glow, Washington, D.C.
June 23, Vinyl, Denver

Yuri's Night Celebrates 1st foray into Space
(Fusion Radio Chicago) Without Yuri Gagarin, there may have been no man on the moon. The 45th anniversary of man's first foray into space is being celebrated worldwide with a worldwide event called "Yuri's Night."

In the past, simultaneous dance and traditional parties thrown everywhere from people's living rooms to nightclubs to the International Space Station have happened over the years, and nothing will change this year. Yuri's Night held annually on April 12, commemorating both the historic first flight of Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961 along with the launch of the first Space Shuttle (STS-1) exactly 20 years later. The common thread in all the events is celebrating the past, present and future of space travel.
